I’ll show you where to find the indoor and outdoor skating rinks around Bristol; who is running accessible and quiet sessions and where you can take a wheelchair or a pushchair onto the ice.

The Skate & See Santa ticket includes:

Bristol’s Permanent Ice Rink at Cribbs Causeway

Bristol’s Planet Ice opened its doors at Cribbs Causeway in 2021 and the sparkling new arena was a welcome addition.

The city had been without a permanent facility since the old Bristol ice rink in Frogmore Street, which was famously used by Olympic gold medallist, Robin Cousins, closed down in 2012.

Planet Ice offers public skating sessions, lessons and birthday parties.

A wide variety of lessons cater for all levels, from toddlers to advanced skaters. Some courses are exclusively for children, some for only adults and others are for families. These include:-

  • School holiday skating courses
  • Ice hockey lessons
  • Synchro ice skating
  • Show and Skate
  • Dance Excellence

They also put on regular events. You may have seen our local ice hockey team, The Bristol Pitbulls, in action here.

FESTIVE ICE SKATING AT AVON VALLEY

300 square meters of glittering real ice is waiting for you this festive season. This sparkling venue with an atmospheric backdrop is suitable for the youngest beginner through to seasoned skaters. Spin into the night with special lighting effects.  

Skating sessions are 45 minutes and start on the hour. Skate aids are available on a first-come first-served basis. Free viewing for spectators.

FESTIVE ROLLER SKATING IN BRISTOL

PROPYARD WINTERLAND ROLLER DISCO

Until 23rd December 2023

OK, so this one isn’t technically ice skating, but I didn’t think you’d mind me sneaking Propyard’s winter roller disco into the mix!

Winterland is back at the former MOD torpedo testing factory in St Phillips in Bristol. And for the 2023 festive season, there’s an 80s twist. So get your skates as they house their first roller disco inside the Studio. Covering over 400 square metres, enjoy the neon lights and glide around under the disco ball.

Tickets for a child skate session cost £8 and it’s £11 for adults. (Minimum age 4+)
Booking fees apply. Tickets include skate hire.

Quiet and Accessible Sessions are available every Sunday and Tuesday 19th December at 10 am.

Icescape is back at Weston’s Tropicana this festive season with the nation’s biggest undercover winter ice rink! Skate on real ice with your friends and family, enjoy the rides, indulge in festive treats and beverages, and meet their mascot, Pippen the Penguin.

Parent & Toddlers: At these exclusive sessions for under fives and their accompanying adults, pushchairs are allowed onto the North Somerset ice rink and free skating aids are available.

Accessibility:
The Tropicana and Ice Rink are wheelchair accessible. Manual wheelchairs are permitted on the ice, but no electric wheelchairs due to control issues. ⁠If you have additional access needs and require further assistance please email.

Quiet sessions are limited to half capacity and no music is played on the ice rink.

ICE SKATING IN BATH

BATH ON ICE

17th November 2023 to 3rd January 2024

Bath on Ice is a winter wonderland in the centre of Bath. The ice rink, with atmospheric lights and wintery music, is open for its 11th year. It’s the perfect place to practise your skating and show off some moves at the same time!

Seasonal drinks are available at Moguls Alpine Bar.

GLOW GOLF

Next to the skating rink is Bath’s adventure golf course which is illuminated with fairy lights.

ICE SKATING IN SOMERSET

CLARKS VILLAGE ICE RINK

9th November 2023 to 7th January 2024

Clarks Village Ice Rink returns for a second season this winter. Outdoor and undercover, the custom-built ice rink features real ice so it’s available to guests, whatever the weather.

Skating at Clarks Village is open for a whole eight weeks, from 9th November until 7th January, apart from Christmas Day.

They’re holding quiet sessions, in addition to parent and toddler sessions for wobbly starters. Penguin and seal skating aids will be available for little ones, as well as bob skates to help guests stay steady. Sessions are 45 minutes long and skate hire is included.

Exclusive discount vouchers will be available for skaters, so you can save a little money on your Christmas shopping while you’re there!

ACCESSIBILITY AT CLARKS VILLAGE

The rink is wheelchair friendly. Manual wheelchairs are permitted on the ice, but no electric wheelchairs due to control issues. 

Quiet sessions are suitable for those who would benefit from a more relaxed atmosphere. There will be no music played during these sessions and the capacity of the ice rink will be reduced. Please email with any queries.

CLARKS VILLAGE PARENT AND TODDLER SESSIONS

Buy an adult ticket at a Parent and Toddler Session and your under 5 toddler skates for free! These sessions are an ideal way to introduce little ones to ice skating. Pushchairs are allowed on the ice (please ensure your child is strapped in and secure at all times). Skate aid hire is included in the price. Parent and Toddler Skating Sessions are indicated on the ticketing site.
