The Christmas lights are on, festive trees are being decorated and children are getting excited all around the country, so where are the best Santa grottos in Somerset and Bristol in 2019?

SANTA GROTTOS BRISTOL

CABOT CIRCUS SANTA GROTTO

Visit Father Christmas and his Elves at the magical wonderland at Cabot Circus, share your Christmas list and take home a present from Santa.

Where? Grotto is on the upper ground floor of Cabot Circus next to Pret a manger.

Cost: £5 per child including gift.

Booking: Book online or just turn up and queue.

Accessibility:  Quiet sessions are available for children with sensory conditions or additional needs.

SANTA’S GROTTO: THE GALLERIES BRISTOL
Elves Workshop at The Galleries
Every weekend from 7th to 22nd December 11am – 5pm

Meet the Elves and help out in Santa’s workshop at The Galleries Shopping Centre this Christmas in a series of free elf-inspired events, where little ones can learn all the vital skills it takes to work with Father Christmas. Each session will offer a different activity, giving little ones the chance to see what it really takes to be Santa’s assistant.

Where? The Galleries, Bristol

Cost: Free family event

Booking: Max 15 children per workshop session. 5 of the spaces are available to be pre-booked and the rest will be open for families to turn up on the day.

Accessibility: Quiet sessions are available for children with additional needs. Pre-booking essential.

Christmas stocking for Santa's Grotto

SANTA AT BRISTOL ZOO
Santa’s Grotto at Bristol Zoo Gardens, Bristol
30th November to 23rd December

Explore the magical animal shaped lights and visit Santa’s grotto. Children can enjoy Christmas arts and crafts, colour in a letter to Santa, spend some time with Father Christmas and receive a gift.

Where? Bristol Zoo, Bristol

Cost: Grotto experience from £4.80 to £6.00 (plus normal zoo admission)

Booking: Bookable in advance.

Accessibility: The zoo is running some quieter sessions with no flashing lights and music will be much quieter. If you think your child would prefer this option, please call them to discuss this.

SAIL WITH SANTA BRISTOL
Cascade Steps, Bristol Ferry Boats, Bristol
Selected dates until 24th December 2019

Enjoy a 45 minute cruise of the harbour with the elves on a decorated ferry boat complete with Christmas tree. Join the hunt for Santa on the dockside and once you’ve found him he’ll come on board to spend time with the passengers. Each child receives a gift, a drink and a snack and there’s mulled wine and mince pies for the adults. 

Where? Meet at The Cascade Steps in Bristol

Cost: £14 per person. No charge for babies under 18 months who don’t require a gift.

Booking: Bookable in advance.

Accessibility: Due to the nature of this trip unless you are able to get out of your wheelchair, unfortunately it won’t be suitable.

SANTA AT CRIBBS CAUSEWAY
Winter Wonderland at The Mall, Cribbs Causeway, Bristol
30th November to 23rd December

Join the Chrimble Countdown Crew on a lively, theatrical adventure through time to discover how Christmas is kept right on track and ends up in just the right spot, at just the right time!

Where? The Mall, Cribbs Causeway

Cost: Grotto experience from £5.00 to £8.50 plus option to buy photo packages at an additional cost.

Booking: On-line booking available

Accessibility: Wheelchair friendly and you can enter the details of your child’s additional needs when booking your tickets.

SUPERSONIC SANTA: JOIN FATHER CHRISTMAS ON CONCORDE!
Aerospace, Bristol
Saturday 21st December 12-3pm

Father Christmas will be visiting for just one day and children will have the chance to sit next to him in the concorde flight deck exhibit. You’ll be able to take photos as your child shares their Christmas wishlist and receives a small gift from Father Christmas.

Where? Aerospace Bristol, Patchway, Bristol

Cost: Tickets for santa visit and gift cost £5 per child (in additional to the normal entrance fee).

VISIT SANTA IN SOMERSET

SANTA AT WESTON-SUPER-MARE PIER
Santa’s Grotto & Winter Wonderland Experience at The Grand Pier
Selected dates from 30th November to 24th December

Children step into a Narnia-style wardrobe and travel through a snow-topped Winter Wonderland. They’ll meet Father Christmas at Santa’s Grotto and receive a Christmas gift.

Where? The Grand Pier, Weston-super-Mare. Follow the snowy footprints to the first floor where the wonderland experience starts.

Cost: £8 per child to include

  • Pier admission for one child and up to two supervising adults.
  • Visit to Santa and Winter Wonderland experience.
  • Festive activities including the chance to decorate gingerbread and make special reindeer food ready for Christmas Eve.
  • Wrapped gift.
  • Admission into the Adventure Cove soft play area.

Booking: Tickets can also be purchased on the day from the Adventure Cove Play Area on the first floor or book online for a small discount

Accessibility: Autism Hour – Selected Sunday’s from 10am-11am
Autism Hours will take place on Sunday 1st, Sunday 8th and Sunday 22nd December 2019. A sensory-friendly environment will be created especially for children and visitors with Autism and other learning difficulties. During Autism Hour, flashing lights will be switched off, normal lighting will be used and music will be much quieter.

SEA SANTA CHRISTMAS GROTTO AT CLEVEDON PIER
Clevedon Pier, Clevedon, Somerset
Selected dates from 14th November to 24th December

A 30 minute experience including Christmas stories and songs and the opportunity to meet Sea Santa and his sparkling sunken ship grotto, in the Porthole Room – made completely from recycled resources.

Cost: Tickets £10 including 1 adult and 1 child entry to the pier

During this unusual Christmas visit, you’ll head into the caves and experience the story of Archie and the Unicorn amidst underground forests and fairy-lit caverns. You’ll meet Father Christmas and his elves who will help you choose a Christmas gift. 

Where? Clearwell Caves , Gloucestershire

Cost: Tickets £14 or £6 for babies requiring a gift. 

Booking: Tickets bookable on-line

Accessibility: Paths can be steep, uneven and wet. Unsuitable for mobility scooters, challenging for wheelchairs, may not be suitable for people with walking difficulties but buggies can go through. Handrails in place in steeper sections.

SANTA SPECIAL BRISTOL: FESTIVE STEAM TRAIN RIDES AT AVON VALLEY RAILWAY
Avon Valley Railway, Bitton, Bristol
Selected dates from 24th November – 24th December

Enjoy a festive hour long ride in a vintage carriage on board a steam-hauled train where you can watch the Avon Valley countryside go by, enjoy mince pies and festive biscuits and a visit from Father Christmas with an age-appropriate gift. Back on the platform there will be a photo opportunity with Santa, weather permitting.

Take a ride on the Santa Train and visit Santa’s grotto at Longleat’s Festival of Light. You’ll be disembarking at the North Pole Halt where you’ll meet Father Christmas and his elves who might just have a gift waiting for the children!

Cost: £6 per adult, £14.95 per child, babes on laps under twelve months travel free. Normal admission charges to enter Longleat and The Festival of Light apply in addition to train fare. Discount available with on-line bookings.
