SOAR MILL COVE HOTEL REVIEW
During the Easter holidays, our family of five popped down to South Devon to spend a couple of nights checking out Soar Mill Cove Hotel.
You can see the video I made about the hotel and its facilities here.
Soar Mill Cove Hotel is located in the South Hams, near Salcombe and is tucked away in a rural Devon hillside overlooking the sea. A National Trust coastal path is right in front of the grounds and it’s just a ten or fifteen-minute amble to get to the beach.
DINING
The hotel has been awarded two AA rosettes. Fresh and prepared to order as you’d expect, the locally sourced food, along with the setting, offers a visual feast before you even take a bite. How beautiful is this presentation?
Even the children’s ‘something and chips’ looks attractive.
And how cute is this individual butter dish?
Our table is easy to spot as it’s reserved with the name of our suite.
During the afternoon, menus are delivered to your room and a waiter comes to make a note of your selections. This is particularly handy for families with younger children as it saves them having to hang around in the restaurant, waiting for their meal to be prepared.
The view from the restaurant in the morning is different but just as impressive as the evening sunset. I enjoy savouring my meals here and am in no rush to move on….
I love how I’m grown up enough to be trusted with actual glass jars of homemade conserves, rather than environmentally unfriendly plastic packets.
The cooked breakfast is top notch ….
…and the buffet is quite exceptional. I don’t think I’ve ever seen ham on the bone for breakfast before but this was very popular with my menfolk!
The children had plenty to do at Soar Mill Cove Hotel and even made this funny video of their favourite activities here. Do watch it – it’s very clever and they did the whole thing by themselves!
As you can tell from the video, the children were happy, which meant we grown-ups had the opportunity to enjoy fine dining, a dip in the saltwater pool and a glass or two of fizz whilst gazing out at this spectacular view from our suite and doing nothing much else, which when you have three young sons, is a treat indeed!
THE VERDICT?
Following our two night stay, would we change anything?
Could Haves
- Some decent Wifi. Yes, you might find some if you stand on one leg in the guest lounge and hold your phone in the air, but if you need to get on-line this isn’t the best place for you!
Practically Perfect Touches
- A suite of rooms which is easily large enough to accommodate all five of us.
- Stunning Views from the room, so just chilling is an attractive option for weary grown-ups.
- A good range of on-site facilities to keep the children amused, including a salt-water swimming pool.
- Plenty of outdoor space.
- Access to its own beach via a National Trust coastal path.
- Near Salcombe and child-friendly beaches.
- Exceptional breakfast buffet (Two rosette award winning restaurant).
Many thanks to the friendly family and staff at Soar Mill Cove Hotel for hosting us. A marvellous time was had by all.
