Libraries in North Somerset are inviting children to take part in the amazing Mythical Maze Summer Reading Challenge.
My five year old has started learning to read this year and it would be a shame if all his hard work began to unravel over the long school holiday. This will be the first year he can get involved properly in the reading challenge at our local library, so we’ve discussed it and he’s told me he wants to join in, read all the books and get a certificate.
Children aged four to 11 and their parents or carers can sign up to do the free challenge at their local library from 12th July
Once signed up they are challenged to read six books over three further visits to the library. They will receive a bookmark and their own Mythical Maze poster with three sets of stickers to collect as they progress through the challenge.
Every child who reads six books and completes the challenge by 13 September will receive a Mythical Maze certificate and medal. They will also be entered into a free LibrariesWest prize draw to win family tickets for local family attractions.
Whilst I don’t plan on setting the boys a strict homework schedule, the reading challenge will certainly be a good incentive to make the odd trip to the library – especially when we’re looking for something to do on a rainy day!
