MUSIC FOR GHOUTA CONCERT
Raising funds for Families in Syria
You may recall the team of local Mums who were so successful in their appeal for donations of warm clothing in aid of the Syrian refugee crisis that they could barely get into their houses last year due to the overwhelming generosity of folk in and around Portishead. After a break – perhaps to catch up on some well-deserved sleep, re-acquaint themselves with their families and to plan their next campaign, the Mums are at it again. This time they’re after your cash to help families in Syria and here’s why.
The charity Syria Relief has explained that they make up food baskets for families and distribute them to neediest families first. In besieged areas there’s very little to go around, so the little there is, is extremely expensive however, there are still areas in Syria, where food and clothes can be bought for much cheaper than in the UK or even Turkey, which means that more families can be reached. This way, any cash we donate can help 2 families at once: the family in need of food and also the family providing it, so in turn they can provide for their family. Families helping families helping families!
QUESTION: SO HOW CAN WE HELP THOSE FAMILIES?
ANSWER: BUY A TICKET TO THE FEED GHOUTA CONCERT
WHEN? This Friday 4th March – 7.30 until late
WHERE? PWMC – The BS20 Sports Bar & Venue
HOW MUCH? £10 donation
CONTACT? Lizzie – 07968 126617
The organisers anticipate a great evening out with excellent local music, all for the greater good.
£10 gives you opportunity to dance to some spanish music (Paz Cabo), shrug your shoulders to the rhythm of The Cat’s Pyjamas, enjoy some jazzy strings, hold your lighters up high to folk music, sing along with the covers and rock to the DJ!
So that’s how you can help. Buy tickets, ask your friends to buy tickets and share this post with your local friends to spread the word. Imagine if by going out this Friday, you could ease the suffering of one or even two families facing starvation inside Syria.
If you can’t make the concert but would still like to help, you can also donate directly here. (2021 update – link no longer available)
