If you’re wondering how to amuse the kids this summer, then look no further than one of North Somerset Council’s free family fun days in the parks. They’re held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout the summer and are taking place in Clevedon, Portishead and Weston-super-Mare.
On Tuesdays they’re held in Clevedon at the Salthouse Fields on 30 July and 6, 13 and 20 August.
Ashcombe Park in Weston-super-Mare is the venue for Wednesdays on 31 July and 7, 14, 21 and 28 August.
And the Lake Grounds in Portishead is the place for more fun on Thursdays on 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 August.
The outdoor fun starts at 1pm and finishes at 4pm
There’s something for everyone with activities including Punch and Judy, street dance, cheerleading, circus skills and fun sports. The North Somerset Play Forum will also be at some of the events to join the fun.
Last year the Practically Perfect Family wandered down to one of these events at The Lake Grounds and the boys had a whale of a time playing, dancing and practicing their circus skills.
It’s good wholesome fun and still appealed to all three of the boys (then 8, 6 & 3).
My suggestion is to take yourself down a picnic blanket, a few snacks (as the children do burn off lots of energy), a lovely beverage for yourself (last ‘summer’ I think it was a flask of hot chocolate, but hopefully we can improve on that this year!) and perhaps bring a friend, (although we always seem to bump into somebody we know).
Then just sit back and relax, enjoy watching your children experience games, music, arts and crafts, face painting and oodles of fresh air and congratulate yourself on your excellent parenting skills!
Oh, did I mention that the weather wasn’t great last year? I’d like to think I threw them straight in the bath when we got home – whether they needed it or not! Ahem!
