Cold Caller vs 3 Year Old

Recently we have been inundated by unwanted telemarketing calls. My feelings about this are split between

  • Immense irritation about the intrusion on my time and privacy
  • Sympathy to the caller because, let’s face it, not many people would choose to do this thankless job, would they?

PHONE RINGS.

‘Don’t worry Mummy. I’ll get it!’

says my 3 yr old, helpfully

After a few moments of being talked at by the caller, he turns to me

I think it’s for you Mummy

Meanwhile the man on the other end continues to talk at him. Zu turns his attention back to the phone and states firmly but fairly

I wasn’t talking to you. I was talking to my Mummy.

Bit bored by now he finishes call screening and offers me the phone. When I have managed to dismiss the cold caller, 3 year old asks what he wanted

He was just trying to sell me something I don’t want

Why?

Because that’s his job

Amazed now

That’s his job to sell people things they don’t want?!

Uh yes, I suppose it is?

Doesn’t sound great when you put it like that does it?

I still feel a bit sorry for the cold caller.

I would be interested to hear what other people think of tele-marketers. Do you have a special technique for dealing with them??

Phone calls abroad! That really is the last straw having to pay international rates for the privilege of a nuisance call!!

I must admit as soon as I hear a certain type of foreign accent I say no thanks and hang up. British Gas are a pain though as last time we were abroad they kept ringing our mobile and as they were so,persistent we answered it a few times, not recognising the number. We really lost it with them in the end and it must have worked because they haven’t done it since.
