Things to do in Bristol and North Somerset with Kids

Portishead Youth and Community Centre offers a wide range of activities including soft play and craft sessions for tots; music and dance tuition for kids and of course a regular youth club. This month’s highlights include a Half-term fun club, Halloween activities and the opening of a new Junior Youth Club for 8 to 11 year olds.

Check out their October Newsletter for details of all their latest events.

Free Portishead Outings - Portishead Beach

Yesterday we decided to go exploring. Some friends had mentioned a beach by Hillside Road, off Nore Rd in Portishead, so we packed up the car with a picnic and buckets and spades, hoping to find somewhere for our children to let off steam for an hour or two. We hadn’t really known what to expect, but the amazing weather and the pleasure our children found in just being left to their own devices, made it a very pleasant and stress free escape – without even leaving Portishead.

As a Bristolian the Balloon Fiesta has been a part of the local summer scene for many years. We’ll certainly be taking our boys along.

As well as the Night Glow, Special Shapes and Mass Ascents, this year young festival goers can enjoy a dedicated Kids Zone plus special appearances from Transformers’ Optimus Prime.

And apart from the parking charges, it’s still FREE!

How many of us Mums have thought how great it would be to find a child friendly cafe with space for the little ones to play while we can chat or relax over a decent cup of coffee? Then take a look at Portishead Youth Centre.

At-Bristol is an interactive science centre with over 300 hands on exhibits. The bi-monthly ‘Toddler Takeover’ is a themed day targeted at the under 5’s. Here’s how our 2 year olds got on.
