Has your family recently moved to the area? Or have you missed out on the support of a local ante-natal group? Do you ever feel isolated? Like all the other parents know each other, while you are on the outside looking in?
Well help may be at hand in the form of a friendly new group. Local Mums Zoe Chalk and Jane Batt, founder of Practically Perfect Mums, have set up a friendly new group where parents and their children can meet up and get to know other locals. The idea came from Zoe who recently moved to the area and wanted to meet with other new arrivals. She tried a few groups but felt like the other parents already knew each other, so with Jane’s help, Portishead New Faces was born. The group also welcomes parents who have more than one child. Lots of us had a great ante-natal group with our first babies, but can find ourselves a bit isolated after subsequent children. If you’d like to meet some new friends with similar aged children, then do join us.The plan is to have a monthly coffee morning on the first Friday of each month where people can just pop in. Our first meeting, held at Portishead Youth Centre in February was a great success. The response from local Mums via numerous emails and comments on the website has shown that Portishead and the surrounding area has a real need for this. The Children’s Centre are keen to support and be involved with the events and plan to attend and offer information to our families. The Youth Centre, who have always been supportive of Practically Perfect Mums, think the meet ups are a brilliant idea and have kindly offered us the use of the Nautical room on the first Friday of each month. We are very grateful for their support as we couldn’t run the meetings without help like this.Zoe has set up an email contact list and Facebook group so that everyone can keep in touch and arrange activities, play dates over a coffee and evenings out for the parents.Whatever your circumstances, if you’d like to meet some other parents then come along to our next meet up.
First Friday of each month from 10.30 – 12.00
