What makes a Perfect Holiday?

Mark Warner Holidays Ambassador Programme

Over the years I’ve learnt that the perfect holiday should meet the needs of all the family – not just the little people. The husband and I work hard all year and a family holiday can only be successful if we all come back refreshed and recharged. To explain this better, I’ve indulged in something I haven’t done since I was about eight – I’ve written a little poem about finding our perfect holiday:-

MY PERFECT HOLIDAY

The husband and I, we work hard all day

To bring home the bacon, expenses to pay

But then comes the evening “Is it time to relax?”

No, first we cook dinner, check homework, pack bags.

Phew the dishwasher’s stacked and the laundry is in

The floor is swept clean and I’ve emptied the bin

The reading is finished “Can I put up my feet?”

No, it’s gym club then swimming – and don’t forget singing!

At last it’s the weekend, but best we don’t party

As first thing tomorrow, they’re grading karate

Ok that’s all done “Is it time to de-stress?”

Well I’m sure we can later, but look at this mess!

So we tidy the house and then service the car

Go shopping for cat food and dream from afar

Of seaside and cocktails of sunshine and pool

Of ski-slopes and mountains and snowboards – so cool.

(Let’s book somewhere soon as I’m starting to drool.)

But choosing a break is so hard to face

With five different people all in the same place

It surely can’t happen, our needs are at odds

How could one vacation please so many bods?

The boys want adventure, windsurfing and fun

We olds want a civilised rest in the sun.

They want to go swimming, windsurfing and sailing

We just want a succulent meal in the evening.

But we’ve heard of a holiday – sounds like a dream

With options which cater for all of our team

The boys can join volleyball, sledging and ‘Kidz’ club

While grown ups get skiing plus putting our feet up.

Imagine! All five of us having such fun

On the beach, apres ski, on a bed in the sun

And now when we ask “Is it time to unwind?”

The answer is “Yes please, relax, and your kids are just fine!”

So that’s our ideal break! How about you – what would your perfect holiday be?

What a cute poem – I’m nodding in agreement! And I’d definitely agree that it’s not a holiday if everyone isn’t haven’t fun, even if it’s not all at the same time 🙂
