Today First Great Western is putting on a Community Rail Festival, providing a special service which will transport an exclusive group of passengers from Bristol Temple Meads to Portbury – just for one day.
As members of Portishead Railway Group, my family was encouraged to apply for free tickets on the charter train which will travel along the freight line to Portbury.
We have been lucky enough to be offered tickets for this event and as if that was not exciting enough, in recognition of our video campaigning to bring the railway back to Portishead, featuring my eldest son “trainboy”, we have been allocated what I suspect are VIP tickets.
Whilst collecting for a number of charities on the day, the Festival also aims to promote the achievements of Community Rail Partnerships throughout the UK.
This all sounds quite encouraging for our own line. Could this indicate another step towards the Bristol Portishead railway link?
