Goodbye 2013 and Happy New Year 2014!

New Year 2014 vs Old Year 2013

Looking back over the year it’s easy to focus on what we haven’t managed to do in 2013. Our house is still messy and too cluttered. We haven’t got round to many of the home improvements which need attention and don’t get me started on the neglect of the garden. I haven’t got round to updating the events calendar with everything else there was to do over Christmas. The boys have probably spent too much time watching TV and playing on Minecraft or Skylanders. I’ve spent far too much time in front of my Mac screen, too much time getting irritated with the boys for creating the mess and I could still do with losing a stone or so . . . .

But I never said we were perfect. When I try and focus on the positives I realise that last year was filled with plenty of achievements for all the family. We spent more time at the theatre than we ever have before, which was lovely. My husband’s accountancy practice continues to thrive and grow and yet I even managed to persuade him to take more than a week off so we could go on a couple of great holidays this year.

I’ve enjoyed watching as each of my children discovers their talents:-

  • My eldest boy shared his lovely voice in public for the first time, performing at The Colston Hall and singing a small but rather beautiful solo at the local Sue Ryder concert, which raised an amazing sum for charity.Sue Ryder Charity Concert 2013
  • My 7 year old started on his path as a novice gymnastic and after just a few months in training took second place in his first ever competition – along with a special award (and this much loved snowman) for making so much progress as a newcomer.IMG_6010
  • My 5 year old ‘baby’ settled into his new role in reception where he’s learning to read and has been described as ‘a credit’ to me. Apparently he’s also well on the way to becoming a Karate ninja!IMG_5877

And me? It’s much harder to recall my own achievements so I’m struggling to say something positive here without a ‘but’. As well as helping my sons find their way, maybe I grew as a person in my own right? Practically Perfect Mums has continued to grow in popularity.  I’m also rediscovering my passion for making videos and enjoyed putting together my first holiday review video a few weeks ago. With an amazing new camera package on standby I’m now ready for the promotional video work which is planned for the new year.

When I read that back it sounds like 2013 has been a pretty amazing year.

Resolutions for the new year, 2014? I have just one. I’ve always been a bit of a go-with-the-flow girl, but starting from now I plan to plan things better, to improve my home and workflow management as well as making sure I find time for my family and friends..

Obviously I haven’t started yet – it’s only the first day.

Oh and I still wouldn’t mind losing that stone . . .

Ooh, that was a lot of sharing. If you’d like to share your hopes or resolutions for 2014, please comment below. Writing them down might be the first step to making them happen.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2014!!!!!!!!!!
