Clevedon Marine Lake Festival – 15th &16th September 2012

Where can you find Water sports, Vikings, a Climbing Wall & Great Music?

This year’s Clevedon Marine Lake Festival is set to be the best ever. The annual free festival, taking place on Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th September 2012, promises great entertainment for the whole family. The line-up for the event consists of a wide range of activities and entertainment designed to meet everybody’s interests from classic cars to classic rock.

Do you fancy having a go at some water-based activities? On the lake, there will be sailing, canoeing, radio-controlled model boat races, zorbing and a raft race. On the town’s adjacent Salthouse Fields there will be Viking re-enactments to explore, a family it’s a knockout, a climbing wall, classic car rally, dog agility displays, a truck pull and even a Pop-up cinema showing a free feature film and showcasing local young film makers’ talents.

If you want something less energetic, grab your favourite drink and a snack from the beer marquee and one of the food outlets and settle down to enjoy the 28 bands and entertainers performing over the weekend on the festival’s two stages. Whether you are into burlesque or line dancing, traditional folk or progressive rock it’s all at the festival. The musical variety on offer is impressive and other genre includes 70’s disco covers, indie, reggae, beautiful vocal harmonies and up tempo jazz.

The festival creates a ‘Village Street” of stalls and sideshows featuring both community organisations and local businesses ranging from cookery demonstrations to hands-on amateur radio.

This year, there is the added interest of the drama Broadchurch, staring David Tennant, being filmed in Clevedon in the weeks before and after the festival. If you want to see why this beautiful coastal town has been chosen as the location for the series why not combine this with a visit to the Marine Lake Festival? The Salthouse Fields are currently the base-camp for the cast and crew, some of whom have expressed interest in visiting the festival.

The Saturday of the festival culminates in a spectacular firework display, so if you want a great free day out and the possibility of rubbing shoulders with a celeb or two Clevedon’s Marine Lake Festival is the place to be.

    Hi Jane,

Thanks for tipping me off to this. Instead of the original plan to take the boys crabbing near the pier, I think we’ll plan to go to this later in the day after James returns from Lisbon. That way, we call all go and maybe catch the fireworks for 8PM as well. Also, email me and I’ll PM you my mobile #.

    Cheers,
    Dana

It does look good, doesn’t it? We went once when Trainboy was a toddler so must be about 7 years ago. I am looking forward to the boys being able to take part in the activities this time round!
