My big boys and I love going to the theatre, so when we were invited to the press launch of Starlight Express I was very flattered but also a bit scared! As a Bristolian I’ve been going to the Bristol Hippodrome since I was a child and in more recent years with my own children, so to be at this amazing institution in a ‘professional’ capacity was a tiny bit daunting. Following the success of last year’s DinoZoo, Bristol Zoo has welcomed back T-Rex, along with 11 new dinosaurs, to form the basis of this season’s exhibit, DinoZoo 2!

Practically Perfect Family was invited along to the launch event on Friday evening, so off we went, armed with our three mini critics to check out the new exhibit – well, it would have been rude not to wouldn’t it? ;)

Community Rail Festival 2012

Today First Great Western is putting on a Community Rail Festival, providing a special service which will transport an exclusive group of passengers from Bristol Temple Meads to Portbury – just for one day. Whilst collecting for a number of charities on the day, the Festival also aims to promote the achievements of Community Rail Partnerships throughout the UK.

This all sounds quite encouraging for our own line. Could this indicate another step towards the Portishead railway link?

As little ones, all my children have had masses of great fresh-air-fun at the Lakegrounds play area and as a parent, the surrounding facilities have made it a preferred local destination.

Almost eight years on, however, our visits have become rarer. Sadly my children are outgrowing the Lakegrounds and now we often find ourselves driving outside of Portishead for age appropriate play areas.

As well as the Night Glow, Special Shapes and Mass Ascents, this year young festival goers can enjoy a dedicated Kids Zone plus special appearances from Transformers’ Optimus Prime.
